The flowchart below provides an indication of the different influences and drivers in the supply chain for demolition.
In summary, the drivers shown in the flowchart are as follows:
The flowchart emphasises the process leading to the production of high quality recycled aggregates. It should be noted that implementation of the ICE Demolition Protocol will result in a wider range of demolition materials being recovered, including reclaimed materials. Reclaimed materials represent a significant high value opportunity. Procedures which incentivise the reclamation of materials are likely to lead to more thorough soft strips and improved segregation approaches - ultimately increasing the potential to produce high quality recycled aggregates.
It is recognised that the complexities of different construction contracts (Design & Build, Traditional etc) will result in some differences to the drivers shown. For example, a traditional construction project, may result in the client appointing the design team through a Professional Service Agreement (terms of engagement), accompanied by a Briefing Document. The ICE Demolition Protocol would then be adopted through this agreement/document.
