Hazardous Waste

Article 1(4) of the Hazardous Waste Directive (HWD) defines hazardous waste as wastes featuring on the list of hazardous wastes in the European Waste Catalogue 2002, because they possess one or more of the 14 hazardous properties set out in Annex III of the HWD. The HWD is implemented in the UK through the Hazardous Waste Regulations. The Environment Agency and SEPA has published Technical Guidance WM2 to clarify how to identify hazardous/special waste.
